How to use remote desktop on Windows Phone 8.1

Remote desktop isn’t something new for Windows, it has been there for a long time. It’s even not something new for cell phone as Android already has a similar function, but I am talking about Windows Phone, this time, around, and you can expect the same experience in Windows 8.
To try this new function, you will need to download remote desktop to your phone, and only the English version is available not. Here I will walk through the steps connect to a server on the net, and a local server as well.

Connect to an internet server

1 Fire up remote desktop and tap the + sign at the bottom.
2 Enter domain name or IP address to the PC name. If you are not using the default 3389 port, then add the port number after the IP address like this, 8.8.8.8:3388(replace it with your port number here), abc.com:3388 if you use a domain name.
3 Enter the credentials. It usually asks you for that information every time, but you can always add an account and save it by tapping add credentials.
4 Tap connect if everything’s alright. There are also a few options about sound etc you can configure.

Tips, double tap back to exit current remote window. Tap the keyboard button at the top of the screen to use the hotkeys like Ctrl + Alt + Del. And between the magnifier and the keyboard, there is a cursor you can use.

Connect to a local PC

Make sure first that local PC runs Windows 8.1/8/7/Vista professional, Ultimate or business etc.
First, configure the server if it’s not set. The things you need to do is to enable it. Just right click computer->property->remote, and check allows remote assistance connections to this computer and allows connections only from computers running remote desktop with network level authentication. As for firewall rules, the system will do it for you.
Second, now find the IP address of that PC. The simplest way would be run cmd and type IP config and hit enter. When you get that IP, refer to above internet guide.
In case you run into 0×204 error, check the firewall rules anyway.
